“Yet God is my King from of old,
Who works deeds
of deliverance in the midst of the Earth.” (Psalm 74:12)
What a terribly sad and meaningless
existence it must be for those poor souls who live the desperate lives of the
unbelieving. They are unredeemed and lost, abandoning their day to day
existence to a death-like passage through this life without the Presence of the
Holy Spirit of the Living God. Their blinded eyes can read today’s passage from
the Psalms over and over and not even begin to understand its full importance
or meaning in their lives. They live lives that are hopelessly inadequate,
bereft of the supernatural fruit of the Spirit, such as true patience. The only
thing to which they can anchor their patience is their imperfect and
inconsistent character or the character of others who are just as flawed as
they are. It must be a bitter and lonely experience to walk unaccompanied along
life’s rugged road. And yet, at this midday pause, let us consider reading the
words from today’s psalm with supernatural eyes, as those who are forever
redeemed by the blood of our Lord Master. Our God is the same King Who
patiently and lovingly spoke our world into existence. He is the same King Who
planned our destiny from before the foundation of the Earth was laid. And we
see from this simple passage consisting of just 19 words, that our great King
of kings has focused His thoughts and efforts on a single overridingly
important task. Our Sovereign God, Who is our magnificent King and Master of
the infinite ocean of time itself, continuously works deeds of deliverance for
each of His beloved in the midst of the Earth! Our blessing is not just
absolute, but our consecrated lives are also completed day-to-day as our Lord
Master, full of patience and grace, fulfills His finished work on each of us –
the delivered whom He has created to bless forever.
Before the King at Midday
“Holy, Holy, Holy art Thou, perfect
Father, eternal and blessed Creator and King. Hold me now, Wonderful Counselor,
and speak to my thirsty and hungry heart Your sweet words of life and peace. In
your marvelous voice of consolation and reconciliation, breathe into my soul
Your deliverance for this moment and for this day. I love You, my King, my
Righteous Abba Father – how blessed I truly am. Amen.”
